Jonah 4:6-11
No.7- Listen To God

Have you ever asked someone a question, you know they heard you, and they just didn’t answer? How do you feel? Like they are intentionally ignoring you? You know they’re choosing not to listening. Its disrespectful. Your response? Me, I am infinitely patient, I caress the suffering brow, overflowing with compassion…. “What’s wrong? How can I help?” Of course, I am quite the opposite, as are most of you. We get impatient, asking again, louder, with more… color. What if God treated you like you treat people who ignore what you have to say? How often do you ignore God’s Word? How often do you hear truth, from a sermon or from reading scripture and ignore it, rationalize it as not relevant? Truth about money, the Kingdom of Heaven, loving one another, immorality, unhealthy relationships. This was Jonah’s problem as well, from the beginning he refused to listen to God. He was ignoring God’s instruction. Do you believe you’re good at listening to God? You know when He’s speaking, what He’s saying? Learning how to listen to God is one of the most difficult swimming lessons any Christian can learn… In fact, most of the time, we don’t even know when God is speaking. If there was a formula to follow that would make hearing God more successful, would you use it?
