Have you ever been around an unbeliever who’s just beginning to understand the Gospel, their excitement, their joy? Doesn’t it seem people in that stage are far more teachable than those who have known Jesus for years? Do you remember their passion to consume biblical knowledge? They ask so many questions! What about their hunger for fellowship, their desire to worship God & be obedience to His Word? Have you ever been jealous of them? Maybe feeling shame for what amounts to your complacency in comparison? Sadly, over time, Christians grow bored w/the precious grace God extended to us, living in ambivalence to it. Oh, we still sing songs about grace, amen pithy quotes about it, like the memes, but we have no joy or inspiration! What causes that complacency? Why do we become ok with neglecting worshiping together, prayer, God’s Word? As I was studying this week’s passage, I was struck by just this contrast between the pagan sailors and Jonah.
