Mark 10:1–12
No.44- The Divorce Trap

This week’s passage doesn’t get any easier—after preaching on drowning, hell, and amputations, now we’re stepping into the topic of divorce. I almost miss last week. But before we dive in, think about this: have you ever tolerated something you absolutely hate, simply because you love someone? Something you’d never choose on your own, but you endure because you see the bigger picture? I remember early in our marriage when Laura and I were living in South Carolina. The Bucs were playing the Panthers, and I hadn’t been to a Bucs game in years. We went with friends who were Panthers fans, the Bucs won and I had a blast, the atmosphere, the energy, the whole thing. Laura, on the other hand, hates football. She was there for one reason: she loved me. Otherwise, she would’ve never tolerated sitting in that stadium. And if we can understand that kind of patience in a human relationship, just imagine what God must put up with in His relationship with His church. Today we’re looking at what Jesus says about divorce—and the heart behind why He said it.
