On Sunday, we talked about Jonathan’s loyalty to David and God. This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about loyalty, or the first time I’ve written about it. I have a feeling it won’t be the last. Because the loyalty Jonathan showed is something we need to understand. It’s a choice. A choice God is asking us to make.
What would you choose? Your home? Your comfort? Your family or your children? What choice would you make? What would you do if you had been Jonathan? Or Abraham? What would you have done had Isaac been your son? Sitting here, in my warm house, with a hot cup of coffee, and my pink fuzzy slippers, ( yes, they are pink!) these are hard questions to answer. But they are real, just the same.
Sometimes the Bible, for me, seems archaic. Sometimes it’s difficult to relate to in my life. For me, it has been. Yet it is real, just the same. So the question remains, to whom am I loyal? Who would I choose? And even in my comfort I can confidently say, without question, I would choose God. Because He, confidently, without question, chose me.
